Psychotherapy for Children, Young People & Adults

Hi! I’m Julia, an integrative psychotherapist – but what does that mean?

My qualifications and training underpin the work that I do, but at the heart and very core of my practice is just another human being like you, who is willing to sit alongside you and help you feel understood, empowered and truly seen. You are more likely to see crocs and colourful clothing in my therapy room, than clipboards and suits. My aim is always to meet you as an equal, I don’t promise to be the expert in your life, but the great news is I believe you are! Sometimes we just need some focused time and space to understand ourselves, something we don’t always get these days.

Whether I’m working with a child grappling with big emotions or an adult trying to make sense of life’s complexities, I provide a calm, patient and completely accepting space. You don’t need to perform here, wear a mask, use clinical terms or even make sense! We’ll go at your pace, working through the heavy stuff together and bring plenty of warmth, patience and maybe a bit of humour along the way. Therapy is not exactly a comfortable process, but you deserve to feel comfortable in the room.

There’ll be a comfy seat, and a glass of water or a cuppa and a friendly face to greet you. I keep a box of sensory soothing resources too from weighted cushions to fidget toys, which may help you feel grounded in the space and able to focus.

Frequently asked questions

How can counselling help me?

Counselling can support your wellbeing by giving you a dedicated time and space to explore what’s on your mind and to understand how you feel in response to aspects of your life. Building this awareness is the first step towards making any changes you may want to make, or to focus on compassion and kindness for yourself.

How long is a session?

You can choose to have a 50-minute session or a 90-minute session, this comes down to preference, and you don’t have to commit to one length for every session.

What can I expect from my first session?

A comfy seat, in a calm space, sat across from a friendly face! Session one is about us understanding what you are looking for from counselling, how I may be able to help, giving you a chance to feel what it’s like to experience a session. You don’t need to prepare anything before your session, but if you’d like to bring some notes along with you that’s fine too. We will talk about what’s brought you to sessions and think about how best to support you.

Do I need to book multiple sessions?

There is no expectation to book multiple sessions at once, this is absolutely up to you. You may want to book your first session, and give yourself time to process how it felt before committing to any more.

Do I need to have weekly sessions?

Weekly sessions are great to build our therapeutic relationship and get into a regular rhythm to build momentum. Some clients may choose to drop down to fortnightly sessions when they feel ready.
